About the event

Our speaker Paul Sherlock was born in Davyhulme and lived in Urmston in what is now Trafford but has lived in Swinton since 1970. He holds a B.Sc. from Aberystwyth and an M.Sc. from Manchester. He worked in the NHS as a Clinical Biochemist. He took up Family History in the mid-90s. After retiring in 2012, he got involved with Friends of Salford Cemeteries and Swinton and Irwell Valley Local History Group (Critchley Community Hub) a few years later and is now Chair of both groups. He is also a Trustee of Age UK Salford and Trafford and Chair of Salford Local History Forum. His main research interest is the Mayoralty of Salford and surrounding areas.


Last time, in Part 1 of his talk, he set out the background to Salford's Mayoralty beginning with the Boroughreeves inaugurated forty years after the granting of the 1230 Charter, discussing a few significant holders of that office.…
